If you are in the unlucky position of having lost your career in the recent redundancies you may be finding it hard to keep yourself motivated. This would not be unreasonable as the economic issues of the past twelve months has undoubtably had a big impact on the number of unemployed and of course the number of job vacancies out there. However you must remember that there are jobs still to be applied for, Internet Business to consider and opportunities to work on a self employed basis too. Agreed, there are not as many as before the recession but the situation is anything but bleak.
In order to offset any negativity you should try to keep an open mind about the kind of work you would like. Do not dismiss any opening instantly, give it due contemplation and try to imagine yourself in the role, opportunities to Work From Home, or work shifts should not be thrown out without consideration. Exploer any roles that you have little knowledge of and try to comprehend what they involve.
If you feel that you may not be up to date with some of the skills that you indicate in your CV look out for some refresher coaching that will bring you right back up to date and give you that all important self-beliefe at the point of interview. As well as improving your likelihood of getting the job you will also meet other people in the same situation and this should make you feel less isolated.
Undertake your job hunt just like you would any other plan or activity at work, give yourself goals and deadlines and ensure that you stick to them. This should help you to take time away from the search too which is very important. You must take time out away from the job hunt to get some exercise, see friends etc. Keeping a good balance between job hunting and your social life will help keep it in perspective.
Try to make use of old acquaintances from previous roles, you never know when they or their company may be looking to take on someone new and if you come to interview with a recommendation you are already ahead of the competition. Use job centers, newspapers and of course Online Jobs sites for ideas and openings.
Finally do not get disheartened if you do not get a role that you have had an interview for. Instead try to make the most of the situation by contacting the company for comments. Very few interviewees actually do that and it can prove invaluable in two ways. The first and most obvious one is that it may emphasise any weakness in your offering, giving you the opportunity to improve in that area. The second is that it shows that company that you are serious about getting back to work and that you value their feedback. If the successful applicant does not fit the bill or if the company have other jobs coming up you may well put yourself at the top of their list.
